Fancy a pop over the Shetland Grand National Fences?
On Saturday evening in Ring 1 the Grand National Fences will be set up for those who would like to ‘have a go’.  Experienced jockeys and ponies will be on hand as will lots of helpers to offer advice and encouragement.  To ride over the jumps children need  to be 8 years old and over and must have a body protector and long boots or half chaps.

Please register your interest with the Secretary on the Saturday of the Show.  A £2 donation is required from each rider which will be donated to charity.

1. All ponies must be registered with the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society or in the main body of a Daughter Stud Book of their Country of Residence.  They must also be in possession of a valid passport relating to them.  The exception is Sunday driving classes which are open to any horse/pony.

2. If any animal is found to be suffering from any contagious disease, it shall be removed from the showground immediately.

3. The working party of the Shetland Performance Show and T.C.A Trading Ltd, accept no responsibility whatsoever for any loss, damage or injury to any person, animal or property.  It shall be deemed a condition of entry that each entrant shall indemnify the organisers against any legal action or claim arising from an accident in connection with this show.  British Standard Hats must be worn at all times with chin straps fastened when mounted.

4. The Judges decision is FINAL in ALL cases.  The committee reserve the right to change Judges if necessary.

5. In the event of cancellation of the show through causes beyond our control 50% of the entry fee will be retained for expenses.

6. NO BICYCLES OR SCOOTERS TO BE RIDDEN IN THE STABLE AREA, HORSEWALKS OR LORRY PARK.  The Show Committee has the right to confiscate a bike or scooter from a person not complying with this rule.  Bikes and scooters will be returned at the end of the Show on receipt of a £20 release fee.

7. The working party reserve the right to refuse entry without giving reason.

8. Foals must be at least 3 weeks old on the day of the show.  Mares with foal at foot may not be ridden or driven.

9. A novice pony is defined as per schedule in individual classes.  NPS and CHAPS (UK) qualifier rules apply.

10. All riders ages are as at 1st January 2009.

11. No spurs to be worn in ridden classes.

12. All ponies to be shown in their natural state, only trimming of the beard and levelling of ears permitted.

13. It is the responsibility of the entrants to be ready for classes.  The classes will not be held up for late comers.

14. The working party reserve the right to amalgamate classes at their discretion.

15. If the working party deem the conditions of the rings unsafe to use, rings will be moved to a more suitable area on the showground.

16. THE WORKING PARTY RESERVE THE RIGHT TO RANDOM BLOOD TEST ANY PONY AT THE SHOW.

17. Any objection must be handed to the Secretary, in writing within ten minutes of the alleged incident, accompanied by a £50 deposit, returnable if the objection is upheld.

18. Competitors taking part in the Show Drive MUST HAVE public liability insurance.

19. ALL RIDERS AND HANDLERS OF ENTIRE MALES MUST BE AGED 11 YEARS AND 14 YEARS RESPECTIVELY ON 1st JANUARY 2009 UNLESS INDIVIDUAL SOCIETY RULES STATE OTHERWISE.

20. ALL DOGS MUSTBE KEPT ON LEADS. THIS INLCLUDES IN THE LORRY PARK, STABLE AREA AND HORSEWALKS. ANY OWNER BREACHING THIS RULE WILL IN THE FIRST INSTANCE BE GIVEN A VERBAL WARNING. ANY FUTURE BREACH WILL INCUR A £20 ON THE SPOT FINE.

21. Secure temporary stabling is permissible in the lorry park but if the ponies are held in an electric fence enclosure during the day they must be kept in a stable at night or on the lorry. Health & Safety is an important issue and if the working party feels that electric fencing is inappropriate and could place other exhibitors at the Show at risk, it reserves the right to ask an exhibitor to lace their pony (ies) in stabling at the showground or on the lorry.
